Zelenskyy Holds Talks on Security Guarantees
(MENAFN) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy engaged in two separate phone conversations on Tuesday, addressing key political and security matters.
He spoke with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store and European Council President Antonio Costa, covering topics such as international security assurances, additional EU sanctions targeting Russia, and Ukraine’s long-term integration into the European Union.
According to a post on Telegram, Zelenskyy informed that his dialogue with Norway’s leader revolved around the outcomes of Monday’s discussions in Washington with US President Donald Trump and prominent European officials.
He underscored that the primary achievement was advancement toward “strong security guarantees.”
“We are confident that peace can be reliable and lasting, and security guarantees are the key to this,” Zelenskyy stated, affirming that collaboration between Norway and Ukraine would persist, particularly within the energy domain.
During his conversation with European Council chief Antonio Costa, the Ukrainian leader elaborated on the Council’s evaluation of the recent Washington engagements, referring to the results as “an important step toward ending this war and ensuring security for Ukraine and the whole of Europe.”
Zelenskyy also mentioned that the 19th package of sanctions from the EU against Russia was in progress, emphasizing that “pressure must be increased until Russia takes real steps to stop the war.”
Finally, he highlighted the significance of preserving solidarity among all EU nations regarding Ukraine’s aspiration to join the Union and the initiation of negotiation clusters, which are critical for its accession process.
