19-Year-Old Detained After Opening Fire inside Oslo Shopping Center
The 19-year-old male entered Storo Storsenter—among the Norwegian capital's premier shopping destinations—and fired one shotgun round directly into the ceiling before alerting law enforcement himself, police officials disclosed.
Responding officers discovered the individual carrying multiple weapons, including the discharged shotgun, a baseball bat, and what investigators believe may have been a knife. The suspect now faces formal charges for grave illegal handling of firearms.
Incident commander Tomm Berger told a Norwegian public broadcaster, "There is nothing to suggest that he attempted to harm anyone."
The discharge sparked immediate crisis protocols. Shoppers and staff fled as heavily armed tactical units converged on the location, supported by aerial surveillance from a police helicopter circling overhead.
Authorities lifted security restrictions and permitted the shopping center to resume normal operations at approximately 11:30 a.m. local time. Law enforcement personnel will maintain visible presence throughout the day to provide reassurance to workers and customers, according to official statements.
Zero casualties resulted from the incident.
